Camden Lock Village is located along the Regents canal towpath to the east of Chalk Farm Road along the Regents Canal. Previously known as the Camden Canal Market, it was completely devastated by the fire that occurred on 9 February, 2008. It took around 100 firefighters to extinguish the fire.
The Market was closed to the public while it renovated. On May 2009, the Canal Market was reopened as the Camden Lock Village Market.
Camden Lock Village Market is the smallest of all the Camden Markets but it still manages to house more than 500 shops offering items like clothing, bags, jewelry and also unusual items and services like blow glasses and drum repair. One may be taken by surprise to see contemporary and vintage clothes in the same shop.
Check out Laneys, a huge stall offering you different kinds of potpourri and an enormous amount of scented candles and aromatherapy oils. Laney’s is run by its owner John Lane, a friendly guy who is always happy to help his customers.
Punkyfish, the clothing store is hard to miss as this store offers colourful, funky and urban street wear to teenagers. Starting as a single stall in the streets of Camden Market, Punkyfish gained a reputation among young people who loved their clothing line. As a tribute to their beginning, Punkyfish in Camden Lock Village Market offers hefty discounts on their clothing line.
Infinity, a small clothing store, is located in the back of the canal, and is a great place to stop by to find the current urban trend. While the rest of the Camden markets are open throughout the week, the Camden Lock Village is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and opening hours are 10am to 6pm.
